1/26/06 The results of this year's Noise Poll (Boston's longest running magazine covering local and independent music) are IN!!!
Kier Byrnes (Three Day Threshold) won "Best Other Instrument" for banjo.
Gina Rebel (former bassist of Three Day Threshold) also won "Best Centerfold" of the Magazine
We would like to thank those who nominated/voted for us as well as thank all those who are out there supporting local music.
12/07/05 We are very flattered that Three day Threshold has made it into 2 different categories in this year's Noise Poll, (Boston's longest running magazine covering local and independent music). The nominations were:
Gina Rebel (Three Day Threshold) was nominated for "Best Centerfold" of the Magazine (sorry fellas, it's a PG rated magazine)
Kier Byrnes (Three Day Threshold) was nominated for "Best Other Instrument" for banjo.
12/01/05 Last week's "Baked Beans and Rice" Benefit for the Hurricane Katrina Victims " went well. We even got a nice little blurb in the entertainment section of The Phoenix:
"Over at the Abbey, I found Three Day Threshold chugging through a surging cover of "Folsom Prison Blues". The drums were loud and the audience was having a ball with the pretty ladies from Through the Keyhole Burlesque cutting a wicked rug on the floor. College students may have been home eating turkey but the Boston scene was still fighting the holiday-week club doldrums."
10/07/05 We got some good news, We found out today that Kier Byrnes, just won a National Performance Recognition Award from ASCAP for songwriting. It's a big honor; ASCAP is a National Songwriters Association that members include the who's who of the music biz: Dr. Dre, Dave Matthews, Coldplay, Kenny Chesney and Jay Z.
10/02/05 Three Day Threshold wants to congratulate Harpoon Brewery on another fine Octoberfest. Over four thousand people stremed out to get a taste of the new Harpoon Octoberfest beer. Three Day Threshold was just happy to be there on hand to play a little music and get the crowd rockin'.
9/29/05 Thursday we found out that we just missed winning a Boston Music Award. We'll cross our fingers and hope for next year, until then, Dennis Brennan, we have our eye on you!
8/30/05 Three Day Threshold was just nominated for a Boston Music Award. Its a huge honor and we are very pumped up about it. There is a voting process to determine the final winner. If you'd like to lend a hand and spread the word, we'd might mighty appreciative. The link to cast your vote is

8/19/05 What a crazy week it's been.
8/10/05 Our upstate New York tour was a blast. First time playing in Albany and Amsterdam. The Gavry family took us in and were amazing. The evening ended up with a late night session with Chad playing cajun music until 3 in the morning. Special thanks to Emily and Evan and their family.
7/20/05 My Other Car is a Police Cruiser: A picture of Three Day Threshold's Kier Byrnes made it into the Reader's Live Music section of the Boston Globe.

7/05/05 Nantucket Fourth of July weekend shows were amazing. We played some long sweaty sets to a packed house. Also finally got a chance to see Cowboy Mouth, who played the shows after us, as well. A great time was had by all. If you ever find yourself on Nantucket, you MUST stop by The Chicken Box. The place is legendary.
6/29/05 Kier got back from an excruciating tour of Ireland. Didn't get a chance to play as much as he wanted to but it was still a good trip and a great chance to see the family.
6/09/05 Played a show with Arizona's Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. Roger Cline used to be in a hit band called The Refreshments. He also wrote the FOX TV show "King of the Hill" Theme Song. They were hungover as hell but put on a great show and were pretty cool to hang out with.

5/11/05 Here's an update to the Gregory Moynahan Memorial Scholarship Fund (see the blog from 3/1/05). You can now donate online if you'd like. Just click Here.
5/05/05 We got a chance to have a few beers and play with Bobby Bare Jr of Bloodshot Records . Having some technical difficulties, Bobby actually borrowed some of Kier's musical gear. Bobby, is son of country legend Bobby Bare, and was nominated for a Grammy with his dad at the age of 4. We dug his new music too. You should check this guy out, he's an excellent songwriter.
3/8/05 Marty Valeri, good friend (see the BAND BIOS section) of 3DT and bassist of FATHER GRUNDY, (3DT guitarist, Sam Reid's other band), is moving out to Seattle and spent his last east coast concert jamming with Sam at The Abbey Lounge. Jimmy Ryan sat in on mandolin and former 3DT bassist, Johnny Ransom made an appearance on left handed vocals. The show was excellent and we hope to have some recordings up on the webpage soon.
3/1/05 THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO CAME OUT FOR RODFEST, A Tribute to Greg "Rodney" Moynahan (cousin to 3dt's banjo player, Kier Byrnes who was killed in a car accident). The show sold out and we raised nearly $5,000 to help finance a scholarship in his name. Thank you everyone who attended and was patient with the lines and the bar staff, we knew it was very crowded. From the band to all who attended, Thank you for your cooperation, good will and kind words.
If you were unable to attend, and would still like to help out, you can send a donation via check made out to Stonehill College (greg's alma matter) to the Gregory Moynahan Memorial Scholarship Fund, Stonehill College, Office of Development, 320 Washington St., Easton, MA 02357. You also can donate directly to the scholarship online. A website will be posted shortly.. stay tuned!
2/24/05 Another interesting gig... we got to play the after party for the Bruins Alumni Team. Boston Bruin legend (#4 on the Bruins all-time Top 20 Scorers, Rick Middleton), bought Kier Byrnes a beer. Being a longtime hockey fan, Kier was pumped.
2/14/05 Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!
So a quick little story. Kier Byrnes (banjo of Three Day Threshold) tried out for the Australian 80's supergroup, INXS, last week (no joke; they are replacing Michael Hutchence's old spot and to make things even more interesting, they are filming these auditions as part of some reality show). So Kier got the call asking him to bring in 3 songs of his choice to audition with. So he went down and started with a bluegrass version of "Devil Inside" that he came up with the night before. The other musicians in the audition started hoopin' and hollerin' "Yee Haws" and stamping their feet but once the song was over, the panel was all business, gave a polite but brief applause and dead panned... "Um, yeah, thank you, we'll call you... that will be all".
So its been a few days, ha, and it doesn't look like Kier will be getting asked back any time to soon, but the whole thing did inspire us to put together a pretty cool countyrified version of the song. We hope to record it and upload it to the "DOWNLOADS" section of the webpage soon. Stay tuned...
1/31/05 Do you belive in seven degrees of separation? Well, if you know know someone in Three Day Threshold, you are only 4 degrees of separation from Axl Rose, Puff Daddy (or P. Diddy for that matter) and The Replacements . How? A surprise, last minute show featured Kier Byrnes of Three Day Threshold teaming up with Tommy Stinson (bassist of Guns and Roses, The Replacements, Puff Daddy), each playing acoustic shows downstairs at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA. If you were one of the lucky ones, you made it to this show. Kier did a version of Morphine's "You Look Like Rain" backed by an accordian. It came out awesome and we hope to have a live recording from the show posted on the site soon (look under "DOWNLOADS" in the column on the right).
1/30/05 Despite some technical and mental health issues, the MASSCANN show was a success. Plus, there were many feats of strength as part of the Banj-O-lympics. The winners of each event were:
The Swiftest Go-Carter: Jeremy Reger
Most Wily Laser Tagger: 3DT's own Chad Mellen for his last minute comeback
Most Dominating Bumper: The mysterious man known simply as "The Conductor"
The Batting Cage Jock: Robby Roadsteamer
Most Seductive Bowler: Beth Bleggi
Freeballer Skee Baller: Carolyn Flynn
Most Wicked Hard Core Groupie: Lucious T. Boston (for saving kier's life after the show)
12/20/04 Happy Holidays everyone! The holiday charity shows went really well, selling out Copperfields and raising over $3500 total for the kids over both shows; the Benefit for the Shriners Children's Hospital of Boston and The Globe Santa. Here's a lovely picture of Kier Byrnes (banjo for 3DT) along with Josh Lederman and Los Diablos caught in the holiday spirit: http://www.coffeestainmusic.com/PressPhotos/GlobeSanta2004FullShot.jpg

9/10/04 Good news! We've been selected to headline the Freedom Rally (aka The Hempfest), Saturday, September 18. More good news!! We were nominated for a Boston Music Award! This is our second nomination ever, last year we were able to take home the prize, hopefully, with your help, we can do it again this year. It will be tough, there are a lot of really good bands nominated, we are pretty good about being considered with them. To vote, click on: (http://www.nemoboston.com/bma/vote.html).
7/30/04 We just played the Central Square World's Fair. It was awesome; the first fair they've had since 2001. It was a honor to play it and to the crowd of over 10,000 people who made it out for it. Here's to hoping they don't wait another three years to do it again. Going to post some pictures up on justbill.net soon. Thanks to Shred and The Middle East for allowing us to be part of their stage..
6/12/04 A VERY BIG WEEK FOR 3DT!!! Not only did we just get some major national attention, here at home they were pretty nice to us too. We won our second Phoenix/FNX Best Music Poll Award for "Best Roots Rock." Other winners of the night included Outkast, The Darkness, Al Green, Johnny Cash, Incubus, Lucinda Williams, Lost City Angels, The Dresden Dolls, The Dropkick Murphys, Thom Yorke and Ani Difranco.
6/08/04 ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) has presented Three Day Threshold with a "National Performance Recognition Award" as part of their ASCAPLU$ program. ASCAP is a national performing rights organization who represents thousands of artists including Beck, Madonna, The Darkness and Garth Brooks.
4/14/04 Our prayers go out to Gregory "Rodney" Moynihan, Kier's cousin and long time friend to Three Day Threshold, killed in a car accident. Reminder to all, please don't get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking.
2/16/04 Three Day Threshold has won 3rd place in the New England Songwriters Competition sponsored by New Life Entertainment for our song "Black River Gold." We get a little recording time out of it, so be looking for some new songs coming down the pike.
Also, with our 3rd song on MTV's Real World (Behind the Barn, Black River Gold and Victory), MTV has asked us to do some more tracks for them. We have been working again with Nick Zampiello (Cokedealer/Cracktorch) doing some instrumentals which we think are really cool, and probably will release them to the public sometime in the future. Also BIG Thanks to the NU kids for helping us get bring Bills Bar to capacity for three years running! Damn, and always a fun time. Big props to Megan Lambkin for being the star of the show. The band cites it as the best thing thats ever happened on stage. Wow, girl you rule!
1/20/04 I'd like to thank the good people from BeerAdvocate.com for having us play as well as throwing an amazing party at the Cyclorama in the South End. Harpoon, Dogfish, Smuttynose, Sam Adams, Magic Hat, Sierra Nevada... the list goes on and on. Great great beers were a plenty, and we are all looking forward to the next one.
1/08/04 Happy New Year everyone. So far its been a blast. 3DT's Kier Byrnes was up for 3 awards at The Maxies (the local underground music award show sponsored by The Noise) last week; "Best Stage Presence," "Best Other Instrument" and "Best Personality." He ended up legitimately winning two awards, however grabbed all three on the way out. Ironically, the award Kier stole was for "Best Personality." Guess he still has some work to do with that one. The last award actually belongs to legendary music critic and personality guru Joe Coughlin. Congrats Joe.
12/8/03 Harpoonfest was amazing, all who braved the cold and snow, found some sweet Harpoon IPA, UFO and Winterwarmer and plenty of banjo pickin music. Seriously, thanks again all who came out, Harpoon are f'ing great hosts and they know how to throw one hell of a party. Also thanks to Fitz Grainger and Greg Moon for putting the whole thing together.
12/3/03 Just before the big Harpoon Christmas Party December 5th! WBCN X-MAS RAVE @ The Paradise, Boston, MA. Three Day Threshold's Kier Byrnes will be among the many local celebrities singing back up for Bleu (Aware Records), also performing: Ryan Adams
11/23/03 Thanks to all who made it out for Johnny Ransom's official last show. The place was sold out and unfortunately a lot of people weren't able to get in. We have a gig at Harpoon, for their Holiday party on December 5th. If you are going to come, get there early, that way you know you'll be able to get in, plus you'll be able to have a few drinks with us. We have 3 bassists lined up, but we are hoping to lure Johnny out for one more show.
10/04/03 Harpoon proves once again why their IPA is untouchable. Oktoberfest at The Harpoon Brewery was awesome and the new Trucker hats are a big hit (nice work Chad Mellen - for the concept and Jason Warne for the design).
9/18/03 Benefit for Lexi Kahn! All Guts and Glory! Lexi when on tour with All The Queens Men in Europe last spring had an intestinal failure; had to be rushed to the hospital (as it is extremely life threatening). She's undergone like a dozen surgeries and is back on her feet now. The benefit is not only to help with bills and expenses occurred but its also a nice way to show our appreciation and we are glad she made it back out of a really tough spot. If you ever happen to meet her, you'll know why instantly, she's a sweetheart. A very positive person in the whole scene. Its nice and refreshing. Cheers to Lexi and hope we see you there at the benefit tonight!
9/5/03 THE BIG NEWS! (From the Boston Herald reporting on the 2 highlights of the Boston Music Awards): "The two best presenting moments: Kate and Liv Taylor accepted the Album of the Year award for brother James' ``October Road,'' and Kate quipped, ``I know James would want to thank Livingston and I.'' and the members of Three Day Threshold accepted their award for Outstanding Rock Roots Band wearing red flannel long johns."
YEAH WE WON!!! And we got to parade around the Wang Theatre in our underwear. Can't beat that! Seriously, thanks to all who voted.
8/26/03 THREE DAY THRESHOLD WAS NOMINATED FOR A BOSTON MUSIC AWARD! We'll need all of your support to win it. Voting ends August 28th and the Awards Ceremony is at the Wang Center on September 4th (3DT's Kier Byrnes will be performing the awards show as part of Bleu's backing ensemble; Blue Man group with Tracy Bonham, Howie Day and Rubyhorse are also on the bill; check our "Events" page for more info). If anyone has any "awards show" fashion advice, please drop us an email. Hah!
8/25/03 Keene, NH. Thanks to those who attended the Young Democrats convention as well as the folks from MTV who helped with the whole "Rock the Vote thing." I also want to apologize to Senator Edwards for certain 3DT band members shamelessly flirting with his daughter.
7/31/03 Three Day Threshold band has been chosen out of 2,800 bands to play at this year's Boston stop of The Warped Tour at The Brockton Fairgrounds with The Dropkick Murphys, Andrew WK, Rancid, The Ataris, Pennywise, Avoid One Thing, Big D and the Kids Table and more!!!
7/27/03 Thanks to Mike Carpenter and crew at Sky Dive New England in Lebanon ME (http://www.ugojump.com) for throwing a great party last weekend and showing us a killer time. He took the band and crew 3 miles up in an airplane, where we then jumped out and traveled 130 mph straight toward the ground. It was awesome. Everyone's chutes opened fine and we were glad to be back on the earth but man, what a rush. It was incredible. Definitely have plans to do it again next year. We are planning to post some video from the jump so stay tuned!
6/18/03 We won the Phoenix/FNX Best of Music Poll for "Best Roots Rock." Other winners of the night included Coldplay, Johnny Cash, Susan Tedeschi, The White Stripes, Scissorfight, The Dropkick Murphys, Bleu and Beck.
